The Orchestre Classique de Montréal, Nicole Lizée, Charlotte Cardin: The 2024 Juno Awards Winners

The 2024 Juno Awards have come and gone. Held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on March 24, the Juno Awards celebrated some of Canada’s brightest musical talents. 

Winners in the pop music categories include Tate McRae, who took home both Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for “greedy”; Charlotte Cardin, who won Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year for 99 Nights; and The Beaches, who received the title of Group of the Year, as well as Rock Album of the Year for their record, Blame My Ex. Feist, meanwhile, won Adult Alternative Album of the Year for Multitudes

Dominique Fils-Aimé won Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, while Christine Jensen’s Day Moon received a nod in the Jazz Album of the Year: Solo category. Hilario Duran and His Latin Jazz Big Band earned Jazz Album of the Year: Group for Cry Me a River. When we were that what wept for the sea, by Colin Stetson, won Instrumental Album of the Year. Elisapie received Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year, honoring her recent album Inuktitut. William Prince, meanwhile, won Contemporary Roots Album of the Year for Stand in the Joy

Francophone Album of the Year was taken home by Les Cowboys Fringants and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, for their album En concert avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (sous la direction du chef Simon Leclerc).

Classical music’s James Ehnes won Classical Album of the Year: Solo Artist for his recording of Nielsen: Violin Concerto, Symphony No. 4. In the Large Ensemble category of the same name, Jacques Lacombe and the Orchestre Classique de Montréal won for Maxime Goulet: Symphonie de la tempête de verglas. Constantinople won in the Small Ensemble category for Il Ponte di Leonardo. Composer Nicole Lizée received Classical Composition of the Year for “Don’t Throw Your Head in Your Hands.” 

In the technical categories, Shawn Everett won the award for Producer of the Year, as well as Recording Engineer of the Year. Album Artwork of the Year meanwhile went to Nicolas Lemieux, Mykaël Nelson, and Albert Zablit for the cover of Riopelle Symphonique by the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. 

This year’s Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award went to entertainment lawyer Chip Sutherland, while the Humanitarian Award went to Tegan and Sara, and Maestro Fresh-Wes was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
