Conceived as a musical fresco with multiple faces, Khenkhenou is an imaginary funeral rite from ancient Egypt. The composer Zad Moultaka has retained the key moments of this ceremony as it is described in the Book of the Dead. The 16-voice vocal ensemble represents the priests and dignitaries of this ancient fantasy Egypt. The great amateur choir is the crowd, whose rumors sometimes resonate in the distance, sometimes the clamors join the imprecations of the vocal ensemble. The text, made up of phonemes inspired by reconstituted ancient Egyptian and the names of the gods, plays with sound colors.
