Russian composer Igor Stravinsky broke through to fame in 1910 when his glittering and dynamic ballet score The Firebird premièred in Paris. The plot was drawn from Russian fairy tales, and Stravinsky packed the music with orchestral colour and folk-flavoured melodies. In the first half, Rob Kapilow takes you inside this magic kingdom to show you its roots and explore Stravinsky’s methods in bringing it to life. After intermission, he conducts the TSO in a full performance of the suite. (Pictured: Rob Kapilow, conductor & host)
