The Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage Ensemble Studio Competition is one of the most exciting events in Canada’s opera world. Now in its 11th year, it is a celebration and fine showcase of young Canadian operatic talents. Canadian pianist Élisabeth Pion has won second place in the first edition of the Blanca Uribe Colombia International Piano Competition, after performing a full recital, a Mozart concerto, and  Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Pion placed closely behind the winner, Artem Kuznetsov, a pianist from Russia, who has won first prizes in more than fifteen international competitions. The Canada Council for the Arts has announced the 2024 winners of the Jean-Marie Beaudet Award in Orchestra Conducting and the Virginia Parker Prize. These awards recognize Canadian artists’ achievements in the performing arts and classical music.
