Montreal, November 3, 2021 – Registration is now open for the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) Voice 2022 edition, to be held in Montreal from May 31 to June 9, 2022. This grand round of international applications will remain open until December 15, 2021.
APPLICATION
Candidates can now register to compete in the Aria division, the Art Song division, or both. The CMIM selection committee will choose 32 singers from among the applicants to compete in Montreal: 20 from the Aria division, and 12 from the Art Song division. The Voice 2022 edition is open to singers of any nationality, born between 1989 and 2004 inclusively, who are embarking on a professional performance career.
Candidates can apply online via the CMIM website. Eligibility and repertoire criteria are also available online, at www.concoursmontreal.ca
Given the current pandemic and the impact it has had on emerging musicians, and particularly on young singers, the CMIM has decided to lower its usual application fee from $135 to $75. This act of solidarity is welcome news to candidates who have lost so much of their income in the last year.
This application period takes place within the context of a much-anticipated return to live competition, following Piano 2021’s successful virtual edition. Thanks to the CMIM, music lovers in from Montreal and around the world will once again witness a new generation of singers launch their professional careers!
ROUNDS
The first round of the competition will feature 32 vocal recitals with piano accompaniment, all held at Bourgie Hall in Montreal’s Museum of Fine Arts. The CMIM’s international jury will audition all competitors from the Aria and Art Song divisions. ART SONG: The semi-final (six singers) and final rounds (three singers) will also be held at Bourgie Hall. ARIA: The semi-final (ten singers) and final rounds (five singers) will be held at the Maison symphonique with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM). This year’s competition will feature a total of 56 recitals, including 15 with orchestra.
