Montreal, March 18, 2021 – The Orchestre Métropolitain and its artistic director and principal conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin are delighted to return to performing before a live audience at three concerts slated for March 27, April 11 and April 17, 2021, at the Maison symphonique de Montréal. Tickets for members of the public will go on sale at noon on Saturday, March 20, on the www.placedesarts.com website.
On March 16, the Quebec government authorized the reopening of red zone concert venues and theatres effective March 26. The Orchestre Métropolitain has the honour of being the first music ensemble to perform in Place des Arts after this latest reopening of Montreal’s indoor performance spaces.

The concert programs
For the first time in his career, Yannick Nézet-Séguin will appear as both conductor and soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major. The musicians of the OM and their conductor will also conclude their Brahms symphony cycle and perform works by African-American composer Valerie Coleman (Umoja) and Venezuelan-Spanish composer, conductor and trumpeter Giancarlo Castro D’Addona (Diversity). In his first Canadian appearance, young piano talent Tony Siqi Yun, winner of the 2019 China International Music Competition, will perform Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
All concerts will be shortened in length and performed without intermission. Some concerts will be given twice the same day.
Activities resume but with strict rules in place
The Orchestre Métropolitain is resuming its activities while fully complying with the strict rules governing the behaviour of concertgoers on site and the return of its musicians on stage. Every spectator over the age of 10 must wear a mask upon arrival at the Place des Arts complex and when circulating within it. Every spectator over the age of 10 must wear a procedural mask upon arrival to the performance venue, for the duration of the performance, and until exiting the complex. Cloth face coverings are not permitted in performance venues. Face covers or procedural mask are strongly recommended for children 2 to 9 years old. Hand sanitizing stations are installed in several places in the Place des Arts complex. Physical distancing stickers are affixed to the floor. One-way routes have been created. Shows are presented without intermissions to limit traffic. Cloakrooms are closed. Strict disinfection procedures are in place and the frequency of cleaning toilets, tables, doorknobs and other sensitive surfaces has been increased. A display to remind guests about various instructions to be observed are in place. Anyone with Covid-19 symptoms will not be allowed to attend shows.
